Tarped Roof

17” x 23”

Through the use of the traditional quilt block ‘Log Cabin’ the name of the old block pattern takes on a metaphorical meaning directing the thematic substructures of the piece. The piece depicts a house embroidered by the artist using only fabric and thread, appliquéd to a hand quilted Log Cabin block made of a used blue roof tarp.  The house represents many gulf south homes that sit for years after hurricanes, damaged and waiting. By collecting and repurposing alternative materials the artist tethers the work to its environment and encourages the viewer to consider homes and people affected by the intensifying of hurricanes due to climate change.
