Rob Peter to Pay Paul #1 and #2

45” x 45” and 19” x 42”

A roadside memorial from Chalmette Louisiana is embroidered using a technique called ‘thread painting’ on top of a version of the quilt block ‘Cathedral Windows’ in a foiling fabric version called ‘Rob Peter to Pay Paul’ Marking an otherwise insignificant part of roadside, the artist explores points of farewell and how markers of land can act as vessels for grief, comfort, and memory. The larger blocks around the central square are composed of kitchen curtains, with the ability to see through the quilt.
